Pick of the Week
This Satirical Thriller
Director Coralie Fargeat's daring critique examines the demanding standards for feminine aesthetics and the feared consequences of ageing. Demi Moore delivers a brilliant portrayal in the role of Elisabeth, a 50-year-old actress demoted to starring in a fitness program on television. Forced aside by her slimy boss her manager Harvey, she undergoes a secretive and terrifying process called this experimental method. This creates a new version of herself portrayed by Margaret Qualley, resulting in a steadily more vampiric relationship between the two. Friday 17 October, Paramount+
The Woman in Cabin 10

This Supernatural Story
Steven Soderbergh pushes his directorial skills through this innovative paranormal narrative captured wholly from the perspective of a ghost. When a household with Lucy Liu as Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their recent residence, the camera – representing the ghost – follows them around. Chloe seems conscious of the ghostly being, and it looks like protective of her. Yet what is the reason? This is an entertaining concept that remains concise, with a twist you might not see coming. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
The iconic actor wholeheartedly adopts his cult stardom through this meta comedy caper. He acts as an egotistical celebrity named Nicolas Cage who agrees to a lucrative offer to appear at a celebration in Mallorca for the rich Javi, played by Pedro Pascal. Contacted by government spies to gather intel on the potential kingpin, the actor's “nouveau shamanic acting ability” comes in handy. October 11th, prime time, on Channel 4
This Creepy Thriller
The director's claustrophobic thriller holds up well despite the lack of a continuation. Set in 1978 Denver, multiple child abductions has rendered the youth anxious. Once Finney is kidnapped by the kidnapper and locked up in a dungeon, he fears a terrible outcome. Yet the non-functional line mounted nearby keeps ringing, with spooky callers providing assistance, and the intuitive nightmares of his sister Gwen may be his salvation. An effective horror. October 11th, late evening, the Film4 channel
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between God and Mammon, the victory is clear for Mammon in Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top film adaptation about the fallen televangelist and her felon spouse. The actor plays the greedy Jim, who declares at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye set about profiting from the American public's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, though Jessica Chastain manages to show the character in a likable light. Next Tuesday, late night, Film4
This Espionage Thriller
This week's another release by the same director is a espionage tale as tight similar to the collars used by Fassbender's UK spy. He is tasked to identify a mole among the team out of five possibilities – one of whom is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. Both actors are masters of calm composure, so a delicious psychological game of deception or honesty unfolds. The supporting cast join in the smart espionage amusement. Friday 17 October, multiple time slots, Sky Cinema
